Marcos Carreras ’95, ’02 has been named a 2027 National Semifinalist for the Recording Academy’s Music Educator Award, placing him among the Top 25 music educators in the country. After seven consecutive years as a quarterfinalist, Carreras says the recognition reflects his 33-year commitment to using music education to expand opportunities for young people.

A graduate of The Hartt School’s bachelor’s and master’s programs, Carreras also served as a Hartt Trustee from 2014–2020 and helped co-create the Hartt School Hall of Fame. Today, he serves Springfield Public Schools at the Springfield Conservatory of the Arts, where he combines music education, mentorship, and professional experiences to empower students and families.

Carreras credits Hartt with shaping him as a musician, educator, and person, and remains inspired by Hartt founder Moshe Paranov’s belief in the transformative power of music. He writes “I remain forever grateful for the education, mentorship, musicianship, and life lessons I received at Hartt. Hartt helped me grow not only as a musician and educator, but also as a person. The knowledge, discipline, encouragement, and sense of purpose I gained there continue to influence my work every day.”

He is also grateful for the support of his family (with many UHart connections!), including his wife, Lisa Sebring Carreras (Hillyer ’93, A&S ’95), and daughter, Victoria (A&S ’28).

Congratulations, Marcos, on this well-deserved national recognition!
