A Legacy of Excellence. A Culture of Growth. A Bold Vision for the Future.
The Hartt School’s Theatre Division at the University of Hartford has once again earned national recognition, named by Backstage among the nation’s top colleges for acting training.
In my first four years as Division Director, we have experienced significant transformation and growth. Since 2022, enrollment across our four BFA programs has increased by 60%, accompanied by strong student retention, expanded professional opportunities, and a renewed commitment to artistic excellence. More importantly, we have fostered a cultural shift grounded in collaboration, accountability, inclusivity, and student success.
This recognition builds upon an extraordinary legacy established by my predecessors, Dean Malcolm Morrison, Alan Rust, and Tracey Moore, and the dedication of our exceptional faculty and staff, past and present. We also celebrate our remarkable alumni, whose contributions continue to influence theatre, film, television, business, and the broader entertainment industry nationally and internationally.
Looking ahead, our vision is to align the Theatre Division more deeply with the University of Hartford’s strategic priorities, strengthen professional and interdisciplinary partnerships, and secure the investments necessary for sustained excellence.
Our mission extends beyond the stage. We are cultivating storytellers, actors, stage managers, technicians, designers, directors, scholars, and writers who will shape the future of the performing arts.
This moment celebrates our legacy, our collective progress, and the opportunities ahead.
We are not simply preparing students to enter the industry. We are preparing them to help define its future.
