How to Move from Awareness to Action against Unconscious Bias

The President’s Office of Diversity and Community Engagement and the Office of Human Resources are pleased to announce the spring 2020 Staff and Faculty Professional Day on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

After rave reviews about their sessions at the fall training, Esther Jean-Marie ‘15 and Jamal Jimerson of Thought Partner Solutions will return to provide a participatory and practical half day of training. Participants will leave with tools and practices to more effectively address and mitigate unconscious bias in personal and professional interactions.

The purpose of this workshop is to deepen understanding of unconscious bias, identity, intersectionality, and how sense of self is shaped.  In this workshop, you will move from awareness to action, interrupt bias and leverage the full potential of diverse teams and colleagues in your workplace.  We will discuss practical tactics like institutional strategies to mitigate bias at decision points and how biases impact people in higher education.  The workshop will offer necessary skills to counter the negative impact of bias.
