Over Fourty Women from Various Industries Attended Dean Zeng's Virtual Lunch Talk Hosted by Women United

Women United hosted a virtual power lunch on May 20, 2020 where the University of Hartford ("UHART") Barney School of Business Dean Amy Zeng was the guest speaker. The virtual event hosted over 40 women from various industries and career levels and Dean Zeng provided her words of welcome and wisdom during challenging times. She shared her inspiration as a woman leader in higher education as well as challenging Women United to lead the change in the communities where they serve and live.

Since 2012, Women United has raised awareness and funds to help women and their families to become and remain financially secure. Nearly $1.5 million has been raised though the organization’s signature fundraising event – Power of the Purse Luncheon and Silent Auction. These funds help ensure that participants in United Way-supported programs receive assistance in identifying financial goals, developing realistic budgets, reducing debt, building savings, increasing income and participating in career coaching.

The community partnership between the UHART Barney School and Women United was developed by Christina Lapierre, Barney School’s MBA Manager who is actively involved in the group's efforts and also serves on the Engagement Committee for Women United.  Her community relationship with this non-profit organization has allowed the Barney School to strengthen its ties with Women United, as well as the communities that are served. Through this effort, Christina was able to launch the first kick-off virtual event for Women United in partnership with the Barney School of Business.
