The following message was shared with students and employees on March 18.
Dear University of Hartford Community,
We are deeply saddened and shocked by the recent violence in Atlanta and the increase in bigotry, harassment, and xenophobia against Asians, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders across the country. We strongly condemn and denounce the anti-Asian racism those communities have been facing, particularly since the beginning of the pandemic.
Our Values Statement underscores our commitment to diversity, inclusion, and respect for all. We will continue to align our work in ensuring a safe, inclusive, and anti-racist community.
We ask that each of us, regardless of race or ethnicity or how we identify, consider how we can contribute to the continued healing and systemic change that must happen in our community and in our country. We all have a role to play in combating racism, hatred, and discrimination.
