Career Exploration Day Takes UHart Students to Employers Around the Region

From corporate conference rooms to crash test simulators—more than 300 University of Hartford students boarded buses for a taste of what a future career might look like.

Students visit Travelers during UHart's Career Exploration Day

UHart’s Career Exploration Day gave the students a chance to connect with representatives of nearly 20 industry partners from a wide range of industries.

“Career Exploration Day offers students a unique chance to step out of comfort zones and engage with professionals, ask meaningful questions, and gain insight into potential career paths,” said Alex Coury, associate vice president for industry partnerships and career experiences. “The event has grown into a valued tradition that unites students from all majors and colleges in a dynamic, professional setting.”

Those professional settings were widely varied: high-tech manufacturers such as Hartford Steam Boiler and Triumph Aerospace, insurance companies such as CIGNA, healthcare providers such as CVS Health and Masonicare, and even sports and recreation companies like the Hartford Yard Goats. Students also got to visit the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, and met with representatives of the Connecticut Airport Authority at Bradley International Airport.

We are incredibly grateful to our industry partners for their continued support and commitment to UHart student success,

Alex Coury, Associate Vice President for Industry Partnerships and Career Experiences

With such a range of destinations to choose from, students were able to tailor their experiences to their interests and goals. At the New Britain Museum of Art, for example, students were not only able to view the exhibits, but also to connect with the curators who create them. Those who visited Travelers’ “Claim University” in Windsor toured a massive facility that included crash test equipment and model homes, which are used to train insurance professionals in how to evaluate claims.

Coury says that in addition to giving students a glimpse of what could await them after graduation, Career Exploration Day also gives industry partners a way to connect with emerging talent, share expertise, and build lasting relationships. “We are incredibly grateful to our industry partners for their continued support and commitment to UHart student success,” she said.
