According to MoveBuddha, a website dedicated to the moving industry, West Hartford is America’s most popular college town, topping a list of 34 towns where more people are moving in than out, and where more residents 16 and over are employed than the national average.
MoveBuddha’s data indicate that in West Hartford, move-ins top move-outs by nearly three to one, and unemployment is around 12% lower than the national average. (That’s even more remarkable considering the town didn’t make the list last year.)
“[M]ore people are starting to recognize that making their home 5 miles from Connecticut’s capital can help former students (and lovers of lecture series) enjoy academic life well into their 20s,” says the report. “And once they settle in, most residents find they can walk to shops, including tree-lined streets that offer up everything from wine bars to bakeries.”
None of this will come as a surprise to UHart students, who are familiar with West Hartford’s shops and thriving restaurant scene—not to mention its close proximity to Hartford, with renowned museums, theaters, and Double-A baseball just a stone’s throw away. It’s also a two-hour trip from both New York City and Boston.
Not something you can say about the number-two town on the list: St. George, Utah.
