Counseling and Psychological Services

Service Hours

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.—4:30 p.m.
Gengras Student Union, room 313

University of Hartford’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides a range of short-term counseling and psychological services to the University community. Services are available to full-time undergraduate students at no additional cost. Part-time and graduate students may utilize CAPS services for a nominal fee.

Our services include individual, group, and couples counseling. Of course, there are times when a student's service requests or treatment needs extend beyond that of which CAPS can offer. In such instances, CAPS counselors will assist students in identifying referrals to off-campus providers or programs that can provide these services. CAPS does not provide court-mandated or court-ordered treatment or assessment.

CAPS staff also provides training, outreach, and consultation to University faculty and staff.

For the health and safety of our community, all CAPS services are now virtual (phone or video). Our services continue to include group and individual therapy, referrals to community providers, and consultation with students with students, faculty, and staff.

If you are interested in any of these services, please call CAPS at 860.768.4482 (you may leave a confidential voicemail), email office manager, Liz Inkel:, or CAPS Director, Jeff Burda:

Students interested in CAPS counseling/therapy must first schedule a 15-30 minute confidential, mental health phone screening. Please call or email to request a screening. After the screening, CAPS will offer our best recommendations for how the student should proceed.

CAPS maintains normal business hours throughout the 2020/21 year: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m..

Meet with a therapist for a confidential initial consultation.
