Roberts Scott

Experience at the UHart TV station helped him earn a job at NBC Connecticut.

With four years of experience at the University of Hartford’s Student Television Network (STN) and two internships at NBC Connecticut, it is not a coincidence that Scott Roberts ’16 landed his dream job with the local television news station before he had even graduated. Scott, who majored in communication, started working part-time as a producer during his senior year. As soon as he graduated in May, the position became full-time.

Immediately after arriving as a first-year student, Scott started pursuing his goal of working in the news industry. He became a reporter and a news anchor at STN and was quickly promoted to news director. During his senior year was STN’s general manager. Because of his involvement in STN and his passion for producing, professors in the School of Communication encouraged him to contact Kristie Borges ’93, NBC Connecticut’s 5 p.m. producer and supervisor of interns. Through her he got his first internship in his sophomore year, which led to another a year later.

Throughout it all Scott also was active in student life, playing in the pep band and being a Red Cap at orientation for new students. He is very appreciative of the personal attention that was given to his personal goal and how others helped him achieve it. “The close relationships between professors and students are really something special about the University,” says Scott. “The support and encouragement has made me a better person overall.”
