Megan Powell ’22 will graduate with an undergraduate degree in accounting, a Master of Science in Accounting and Taxation (MSAT) from Barney School of Business, and a full-time position as an Assurance Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Her success is due to the hard work she put into a unique program offered through UHart’s Barney School, called the 3+1 Accelerated Business Program. Participation in this program allows students to graduate with an undergraduate degree and an MBA or MSAT in just four years!
As a high school student, Megan took several advanced placement courses and scored well on the exams, meaning she could transfer all of the AP credits to UHart and reach her goals even sooner. “For highly motivated students such as myself,” says Powell, “this is a great opportunity to fast-track your studies and enter the working world sooner than your peers.”
Participation in the 3+1 program means students can take advantage of Barney’s rigorous curriculum, including a required internship, and targeted advising focused on preparing students for life beyond a classroom. Megan believes that “Barney's curriculum focused on molding students into confident, competent, and connected business professionals.”
In thinking over her time at UHart, Megan says that her advice to incoming students is “to stay focused on your studies and put school first! Get involved when you can but don't forget the reason you came to UHart in the first place, to learn!” She goes on to recommend that “getting involved during every level of your studies” and joining the numerous clubs and organizations on campus made her “feel very connected” to her campus community.
For Megan, as a member of Barney’s 3+1 program, it was the combination of strong classroom academics, a required internship, involvement with her studies, and the time she put into her coursework that has greatly prepared her to enter the working world at PwC.
