Graduating Management student, Monica Sadil will leave UHart’s nationally recognized Barney School of Business with both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree after only four years on campus. The commuter student participated in Barney’s 3+1 program and has already been hired before graduation as an Underwriting Trainee in Group Benefits at The Hartford. In addition to hard work in the classroom, Sadil’s involvement in student organizations, clubs, and campus activities enriched her experience, expanded her academic and professional networks, and helped her lay the groundwork for a successful future.

Sadil recalls, “The summer before I started my freshman year started, I participated in the Summer Business Institute (SBI). I got to experience what it is like to be a UHart student, meet some of Barney’s finest professors, and make friendships that lasted throughout my UHart career.” Freshman year Sadil officially began the 3+1 accelerated business program at Barney, setting her up to graduate in four years with an undergraduate degree and an MBA.

As a 3+1 student, I learned how to manage my time and meet deadlines. The University provided me with numerous networking opportunities that helped me get comfortable introducing myself to new people. Being involved allowed me to think analytically about problems, propose solutions, and implement those solutions. These are all skills that employers are looking for,” says Sadil of her experience in the program.

A required part of Barney’s curriculum, Sadil participated in two internships before graduation. She says, “While interning at The Women’s Advancement Initiative as the Assistant Director Intern my junior year, I learned how to build relationships with alumnae, directors, and program donors, to increase donor cultivation.” Then the summer leading into her senior year she interned with CVS Health in their General Management Corporate Internship Program.

In addition to her required courses and internships, Sadil was involved in the RDTI Experiential Learning project with The Hartford. Here she used real data provided to compare the book of business of two business owner policies in the state of Texas. Their findings were presented to senior leadership at The Hartford.

As the president of the only Connecticut colligate chapter of DECA, Sadil co-leads the student-based group that focuses on emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. She says, “I worked very closely with Dr. Celia Lofink. with Dr. Lofink to build a DECA chapter from the ground up. I have enjoyed seeing UHart DECA evolve over the last four years.”

Known for their ever-advanced curriculum, tangible learning experiences, and focus on career-readiness, Sadil’s decision to study management at Barney was grounded in sensible thought and has proven to be successful. “I wanted to pursue a management major because it is a very practical major that can be applied anywhere. Managers need to know how to communicate and inspire people, solve problems, make sure that work gets completed, and understand fundamental business concepts.” Barney School of Business provided Sadil with real-life experiences and situations from which she could develop the skills necessary to begin her career after UHart.
