Greg Wadinger ‘23, M' 24, an accounting major with a minor in risk management and insurance, is enrolled in the 3+1 program at the Barney School of Business.  During the summer of 2022, Greg was awarded the opportunity to intern with Pratt & Whitney to put his accounting knowledge to the test in a real-world setting. Besides academics, Greg is involved as an active member of the men’s rugby team and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and also works as a peer tutor on campus.

The Barney School was instrumental in guiding Greg to his recent internship position for the summer of 2022. Greg explains, “The Barney School of Business helped by preparing me for the process of interviewing in hopes of an internship offer. This included an introduction to LinkedIn, interview strategies, and recommendations of where to apply.” After his selection following the interview stage, Greg worked for Pratt & Whitney as an MCE accounting intern. The knowledge he acquired in Barney’s accounting courses was particularly useful for his internship. He utilized much of what he had learned  and applied them to his real-world accounting position.

Greg admires the  “Career-Ready” focus at the University of Hartford, which places a great emphasis on preparing and launching students into their desired fields.  Greg feels confident that the University will enable him to flourish in whatever  comes his way and on his path to a meaningful professional life.

Greg’s plan  is to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) after graduation and to have the opportunity to work his way up at a company that  best fits  his goals and preferences.

The number one piece of advice I can give to incoming students is to stay organized and manage your time. All through your time at the Barney School of Business, you are going to have a lot of things to do. But if you plan when to do everything and stick to a good schedule, the workload will not feel like much at all.
