For Justin Dorso ’28, a finance major with a minor in risk management and insurance, the decision to study business was rooted in a simple but powerful idea: understanding money means understanding the world.
“Everything revolves around money,” Justin says. “I’ve always enjoyed following the stock market and learning about different investments and securities, how they work, and how they can help grow wealth.”
At UHart’s Barney School of Business, Justin has found more than just academic knowledge; he’s discovered a supportive community that has helped him grow both personally and professionally.
“What I enjoy most about UHart is the community and the valuable resources available to help me reach my full potential,” he explains.
Through coursework and career-focused programming, Justin has begun building a strong foundation for his future. Programs like BAR courses and Allan Center initiatives have played a key role in preparing him for the professional world.
“These experiences have helped me develop a polished business profile and feel more confident connecting with recruiters and employers,” he says.
Justin’s career interests are focused on the insurance industry, where he plans to pursue a role in claims, with a long-term goal of moving into underwriting or claims adjudication.
His passion for the field has been influenced by faculty who made a lasting impression. “Professor Ken Goroshko and Professor Yu Lei really sparked my interest in insurance,” Justin shares. “They’ve been incredibly impactful in helping me explore this path.”
Beyond academics, Justin credits Barney with helping him grow in ways he didn’t expect. “When I first came to college, I was pretty shy,” he admits. “Barney has helped me come out of my shell and develop strong communication and networking skills with both peers and professionals.”
Outside the classroom, Justin enjoys staying active and exploring the world. Whether it’s traveling to new places, spending time outdoors, or snowboarding in the winter, he values experiences that keep him engaged and energized.
As he continues his journey at UHart, Justin intends to build not only the technical skills needed for a career in finance and insurance but also the confidence and connections that will help him succeed long after graduation.
