Hartt Professor Javon Jackson Featured on NPR

Hartt faculty Javon Jackson, a professor of Jazz Saxophone and Director of Jackie McLean Jazz Studies Division, was recently featured on NPR for his work with renowned poet Nikki Giovanni. Jackson incorporated a jazz ensemble for Giovanni’s second and newest album titled, “The Gospel According To Nikki Giovanni,” a collection of gospel hymns and spirituals set to jazz. 

Since bonding together over their connection to jazz during a Black History Month event here at UHart back in 2020, the pair came full circle and released their collaboration during the same month of celebration. Click here to listen to the album.
