The University of Hartford has been named a 2022-2023 College of Distinction and is also being highlighted in the areas of business, education, engineering, nursing, career development and equity and inclusion.

The honors are given to schools by Colleges of Distinction, a unique guide for college-bound students. The organization, which provides resources on the undergraduate experience for students, parents and high school counselors, has been committed since 2000 to recognizing schools throughout the country for true excellence in higher education.

Colleges of Distinction believes that a thorough selection process requires more than an overview of institutional data, statistics, and size of endowment. The selection process focuses on engaged students who are given the opportunity to take an active part in their own learning; great teaching and meaningful interactions with faculty; a vibrant community that fosters connections with peers outside the classroom and a sense of belonging; and successful outcomes with regard to graduation and post-college life.

These principles prioritize the ways that institutions enable students to have a fulfilling, individualized college experience both inside and outside of the classroom.

“When we focus all of our attention on how schools stack up against one another, we lose track of what really matters: the students themselves,” said Wes Creel, Founder of Colleges of Distinction. “Every student has individual needs and their own environment in which they’re most likely to thrive. We want to extend our praise to schools like the University of Hartford that prioritize and cater to students’ goals.”

UHart’s inclusion is informed by the unique strategies it utilizes in achieving success. Colleges of Distinction reported that it was inspired by the ways UHart immerses students in their fields, while creating an inviting community that supports them during and after their college careers.
