February 09, 2023
Submitted By: Nicholas Ealy

The University of Hartford Humanities Center Lecture Series for Spring 2023, focusing on the theme of “Decolonizing the University: Ethnic Studies,” continues Monday, Feb. 13, from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. in Hillyer Hall 229 (please note the room change!).

The second talk in the series, “Social Group Disparities among White and Non-White Groups in the U.S.” will be given by Jonathan Gordils, Humanities Center Faculty Fellow and Assistant Professor of Psychology. Here, Professor Gordils will speak about his current research regarding the consequences and underlying processes of social group disparities (e.g., intergroup income inequality), as well as the consequences and antecedents of intergroup competition between Black and White individuals in the United States. He will include other populations of color (e.g., non-White Hispanic/Latinx and East Asian groups) to examine whether income gaps between White and non-White groups have the potential to exacerbate negative psychological perceptions.

The Humanities Center Lecture series is developed and led by Karen Tejada-Peña, Associate Professor of Sociology. For more information, contact Nicholas Ealy, director of the Humanities Center (ealy@hartford.edu), visit our website or join our Facebook page.
