Changes in the Provost's Office

May 12, 2023
Submitted By: Desiree Kleykamp

As you know, T. Stores will be leaving the University of Hartford to become the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities at Framingham State University. We are grateful for T.’s outstanding service and we wish her well in her new position.

The Provost’s Office has taken this opportunity to re-organize and streamline our operations. We will not be replacing T.’s staff position. Instead, we are re-assigning tasks and reducing the size of the Provost’s Office. These changes will be effective July 1, 2023.

Jessica Nicklin will be the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Research, taking over much of what T. was overseeing and maintaining some of her existing role. In this capacity, Jess will oversee faculty searches, new faculty orientation, DEIJB efforts, part-time faculty professional development and recognition, P&T support, sabbaticals, IRB/IACUC, Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation, among other initiatives that support faculty development. Jess will maintain her faculty status.

Jim Shattuck will be the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs. While much of Jim’s areas will remain the same, some of those areas will expand to include graduate programs. Jim will oversee the Council of Assistant and Associate Deans (CAD), DEIJB efforts, curriculum review and development, new undergraduate program development, assessment, program review, retention initiatives, Registrar, University Honors, and University Interdisciplinary Studies, among other initiatives.

RJ McGivney will remain as Associate Vice President for Graduate and Professional Studies. RJ oversees Graduate admissions, new graduate program development, DEIJB efforts, retention initiatives, International Center, International Admissions, English Language Institute, online and continuing education, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, Paralegal Studies, and the Bachelor of University Studies program, among other initiatives.

In addition, we will be creating a new faculty role reporting to RJ, to co-chair the Graduate Council and oversee the Graduate Symposium, Graduate Regents Awards, and graduate travel grants, similar to the leadership model we use for the Undergraduate Honors Program. There will be a call for applications for this position shortly.

I am extremely confident in this leadership team, and I look forward to our continued work together. Please reach out to them, or to me, with any questions.

Katherine A. Black, Ph.D.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
