The announcement of our new outdoor athletics and recreation complex received significant coverage across local and regional media. Two stories in particular stood out.

UHart basketball legend Vin Baker, for whom the facility will be named, was interviewed in the Hartford Courant and on WTIC radio. In both appearances, he expressed his deep gratitude to the alumni who are supporting the project in honor of his legacy and their shared experience at UHart.

“This facility, the name on it, is going to outlive me,” he told the Courant. “This is the most amazing thing that has ever happened to me, not only because I started at 17 years old at the University of Hartford, but I know how huge that is, to have your name on a building.”

On WTIC’s morning show, Baker also spoke about paying a visit to a recent men’s basketball game, to the surprise of fans and players. “It was amazing,” he said. “The building was electric, and I'm just excited about everything that's going to happen moving forward at the University of Hartford.”

Both stories, plus another mention in CT Insider, were picked up on Yahoo Sports and other national aggregators, bringing them to a nationwide audience. Watch for more updates as the project moves forward through the summer.
