Graduating Student Loan Borrowers Must Complete Exit Counseling

If you were a recipient of a Federal Direct Loan during your time at the University, federal regulations require you to complete Exit Counseling upon graduation. Students who are required to complete the Exit Counseling process have been notified via email and have the requirement posted to their Self-Service account.

To confirm if it is required for you, log into your Self-Service account. After successful login, complete the following steps:

  • Select the Financial Aid tab >
  • Select Home Tab >
  • Select Aid Year (i.e. 2025-26 aid year) >
  • Under Student Requirements, see 'Unsatisfied Requirements'

You may click on the “Required Online Direct Loan Exit Counselling” link to be directed to the appropriate page to complete. You will need your FSA ID which you used to complete the FAFSA.

The requirement must be completed by Friday, May 8 to prevent holds, however, can still be completed after that date. The Office of Student Financial Aid should receive electronic notification 24 hours after it is completed.

Please visit Bates House if you need assistance with this process.
