President Emeritus Walter Harrison Faculty Development Grant Winners AY 2026–27

Three faculty members have been awarded the President Emeritus Walter Harrison Faculty Development Grant for AY 2026–27.

The President Emeritus Walter Harrison Faculty Development Grants, given annually, are internal grant awards intended to support the needs of mid to late-career faculty and the University of Hartford by supporting significant scholarly efforts. These grants are made possible by a generous gift from a group of donors to honor past University of Hartford President, Walter Harrison.

Amanda Carlson, Associate Professor of Art History, Hartford Art School has plans to travel to Senegal and Morocco to interview African artists and designers, explore archives, and present a conference paper on traditions of dress and design history.

Mala Matacin, Professor, Department of Psychology, College of Arts and Sciences, will use the funding to co-edit a special issue of Psychology of Women Quarterly. This will allow her to conduct archival work at the University of Akron and attend the Association for Women in Psychology conference to present her work.

Maria Frank, Professor, English and Modern languages, College of Arts and Sciences, will complete a scholarly work on a late medieval literacy text—a novella that is part of the world literature masterpiece titled The Decameron (1348-1351).
