Remembering Peter Wood

photo of Peter WoodPeter D. Wood Jr., trades director with the University of Hartford's facilities department partner, Aramark, and a treasured member of the campus community, died on Saturday, April 11.

"Pete was an important part of our team—someone we relied on not only for his expertise and leadership but also for his steady presence and willingness to help others," says Matt Paige, executive director of facilities. "He took great pride in his work and consistently went above and beyond to support those around him."

On campus, Wood oversaw vital daily tasks such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and locksmith services. Beyond his professional responsibilities, he was well-known campus throughout campus for the kindness and respect he afforded everyone who crossed his path.

A lifelong Connecticut resident, Wood was born in Bridgeport, grew up in Shelton, and lived in Clinton. Earlier in his career, he spent more than 20 years as an electrical tradesman at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Bridgeport.

“Pete was someone who truly showed up for others,” says Michael Pieksza, Aramark vice president of operations. “In his time at the University of Hartford, he brought great care, pride, and a deep sense of community to his work. His kindness, strength, and commitment to family both at home and here on campus left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He will be greatly missed.”

Wood was a devoted father to two sons, served as a Cub Scouts master, and coached baseball and football. Two of his other favorite hobbies were music and Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
