About Health Professions Exploratory

The College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions (ENHP) offers an exploratory pathway for students in their first and second year at UHart. This pathway is designed to help students identify their strengths, interests, and potential career paths while taking courses designed to prepare them for one of ENHP's health profession programs.

The exploratory pathway exposes students to a range of introductory classes that cover the different health fields. At the end of the first year or second year, students will have the opportunity to declare their major if they meet the program requirements and plan their pathway to graduation.

Pathways

All students in the exploratory pathway automatically qualify for ENHP's health science major. Students interested in nursing, radiologic technology, and occupational therapy will need to meet specific criteria outlined below.

Nursing (BSN)

Students in the Health Professions Exploratory pathway are admitted to the University of Hartford Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program on a competitive, space-available basis. Minimum criteria include a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and completed coursework in biology (BIO 122, BIO 212 and BIO 213 with a C+ or higher), chemistry (CHM 114 and CHM 136 with a C+ or higher) and psychology (PSY 105 with a C+ or higher).

Due to the competitive nature of the BSN program, seats are limited.

Radiologic Technology

Students in the Health Professions Exploratory pathway are eligible for admission into to the University of Hartford Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology program on a competitive, space-available basis. The Rad Tech program will consider internal transfer applicants who are in good academic standing. Minimum criteria include a 2.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) and completed the following courses:

  • One college-level math course (3 credits) with a C+ or higher at the algebra level or higher (M110, M140 or M144)
  • One college-level course, with lab with a C+ or higher in each of the following sciences:

    • general physics (4 credits) – PHY 101, PHY 102 or PHY 120

Once these criteria have been met, students are eligible for placement on a waiting list. Visit the Radiologic Technology Transfer Student Admission process for more information.

Occupational Therapy

Students in the Health Professions Exploratory pathway are admitted to the University of Hartford Occupational Therapy (OT) Program on a competitive, space-available basis. The OT program will consider transfer applicants who are in good academic standing at the University of Hartford, with an overall GPA of at least 3.0. A grade of B- or higher will be required in Intro to Biology I (BIO 122), College Chemistry I & II (CH 110 & 111P), and Anatomy and Physiology I & II (BIO 212 & 213). It is important to note that BIO 212 & 213 have prerequisites.

Transfer applications and spring grades will be reviewed by the OT Program prior to making a final decision for acceptance. Students will be informed of decisions on or by June 1st (unless summer courses must be completed).

Required courses must be completed by August to enter the program for the Fall term. Applicants completing coursework in the summer will be considered only after the completion of the required coursework.

Admission

Students are reviewed upon admission to the University of Hartford and placed in the Health Professions Exploratory program providing pathway options for eligible students to move into their preferred degree program if space is available. All students can move into ENHP's health sciences degree program.
