Weekly lessons, master classes, brass repertoire class, special seminars and guest artists, are all part of the equation here at Hartt to make you become the player you want to become. You can accomplish so much, and at Hartt, you will keep getting better.
Admission and Audition Requirements
In order to schedule an audition, the University of Hartford application as well as the Hartt Undergradute supplemental application must be completed. Learn more about the undergraduate or graduate application process.
The Hartt School conducts live auditions and interviews for applicants on campus as well as in select cities around the United States. Applicants who reside more than 300 miles away from campus are eligible to submit a recorded audition.
Undergraduate
- Two contrasting études showing the applicant's level of technical and musical advancement.
- One standard solo selected from, or comparable to, works by: Arutunian, Haydn, Hummel, Hindemith, or Kennan.
- One lyrical and one technical orchestral excerpt from the Standard Orchestral Repertoire. Examples can be found here.
Undergraduate applicants are required to perform their auditions on B-flat or C trumpets exclusively.
Graduate
- Two contrasting études showing the applicant's level of technical and musical advancement.
- One movement from a standard solo selected from, or comparable to, works such as: A. Honegger's Intrada, Halsey Stevens' Sonata.
- Three standard orchestral excerpts:
- Moussorsky - Ravel Pictures at an Exhibition, Promenade
- Respighi - Pines of Rome Offstage Solo
- Stravinsky - Petrouskia Ballerina Dance
