Music production & technology at Hartt trains musicians to become music production professionals (i.e. recording, mixing, and mastering engineers). We believe strong musicianship skills are essential for successful engineers and producers. Through study in music, electronics and acoustics, you will develop the skills and knowledge necessary to work in the professional audio industry.
Admission Requirements
Music production & technology applicants are required to interview with a faculty member of the department. This is the chance for the applicant to meet face to face with a member of the MPT faculty to discuss the program and a career in music production. It is also a chance for the faculty member to learn more about the applicant’s musical and technical background as well as their motivation for entering the field. Previous recording experience is helpful but not necessary. Evidence of research and awareness of the field is expected.
Music production & technology is a Bachelor of Music program, and therefore requires an interview and an instrumental or vocal audition. The audition must be in one of the following categories: classical, jazz, or commercial music, each having its own specific guidelines.
In order to schedule an interview and audition, the University of Hartford application as well as the Hartt supplemental application must be completed.
