Housing Selection for Returning & Transfer Students
Go to the Housing Application to complete your housing selection process.
Housing selection is the process through which returning and transfer students secure on-campus housing for the upcoming academic year.
To participate in housing selection, students must complete the following steps by the listed deadlines:
- Step 1: Pay the $75 Housing Application Fee by March 17
- Step 2: Submit the Academic Year Housing Application by March 24
Students who submit the housing application after the March 24 priority deadline may still participate in housing selection but will receive a lottery number on a rolling basis rather than by enrollment year and group status.
Important Housing Dates
- Housing Application Fee ($75): Due March 17
- Housing Application Deadline: March 24
- Lottery Number Distribution: March 25
- Roommate Group Creation: March 25—April 13
- Room Selection: April 13—April 24 (based on enrollment year, group status, and lottery number)
Application Fee
The $75 Housing Application Fee is required to live in on-campus housing and participate in housing selection.
This non-refundable fee:
- Confirms your intent to live on campus
- Provides access to the housing application
- Helps the Office of Residential Life plan housing availability
The fee can be paid through CASHNET or in person at the Center for Student Success (CSS).
Timing note: The Housing Application will become available 48 hours after your application fee has been processed. For example, if you pay the fee on a Monday, the application will be available by Wednesday.

Once your application fee has been processed, you can access the Housing Application through your Self-Service account. You must complete this application to participate in housing selection.
To complete the application:
- Log in to Self-Service
- Select Residential Life
- Log in using your University of Hartford email credentials
- Select Housing Application
- Choose the appropriate academic year
- Complete and submit the application
Additional Information
- Housing selection is for the full academic year (August–May).
- Students who do not select housing will be assigned a space based on availability.
- Review the Residential Housing Refund Policy for details on cancellation fees and refund amounts.
- Information for the upcoming academic year will be available only in the Housing Portal in Self-Service until the current academic year concludes.
