For Justin Siegel ‘25, a finance major with a management minor graduating in December, choosing his field of study came down to one word: opportunity. “I chose finance for the diverse opportunities it offers, as well as the rapid growth within each of those opportunities,” he says. This mindset has guided him throughout his time at the University of Hartford, where he has embraced every chance to learn, connect, and lead.
What Justin has enjoyed most about being a UHart student is the ability to get involved behind the scenes—experiences that have helped shape his confidence and leadership skills. Starting as a proctor, he supported fellow students in their academic success and witnessed their growth throughout the semester. His dedication led to an even bigger role when Celia Lofink, currently professor emeritus, offered him the opportunity to serve as the student program assistant for the Barney School. In this position, Justin played a key role in organizing major events such as Hawks Take Flight and other career-focused programs, providing him with hands-on experience in planning, leadership, and student engagement. “This role allowed me to connect not only with students but also with the alumni we hosted,” he says.
Justin credits UHart, and Barney specifically, with preparing him for his future career. From classes that mirror real-world challenges to opportunities to meet employers and engage with alumni, he feels ready to take the next steps in his professional journey. The small class sizes within Barney have been especially meaningful, helping him form strong connections with peers and build relationships that will last far beyond graduation.
Currently exploring job opportunities, Justin also plans to further his education as he continues to develop his skills and interests. His background includes impressive professional experiences, such as a data analytics role at L’Oréal in New York City, where he created the company’s only instructional guide for training employees on a newly integrated software system. He also served as a financial control intern at Henkel, where he presented a digitalization project valued at over $1 million to the North America CFO and other leaders.
Outside the classroom, Justin enjoys a lifelong passion for cars and mechanics, and he spends his free time snowboarding and golfing.
With a strong work ethic, leadership experience, and a drive to keep learning, Justin Siegel is well prepared for a successful and impactful career in finance—and he credits the University of Hartford and the Barney School for helping him get there.
