For Reshma Sawant M'26, pursuing a master of science in business analytics at the University of Hartford was a natural next step in a career that is being built on problem solving, collaboration, and continuous learning.
"I've always enjoyed solving problems and finding ways to make better decisions," Reshma says. "After spending many years managing projects and working closely with business and technology teams, I wanted to strengthen my ability to use data to tell a story and uncover meaningful insights."
Reshma notes that the MSBA program provided the perfect blend of business strategy, technology, and analytical thinking. Through coursework, hands-on projects, and collaborative learning experiences, she developed the technical and analytical skills needed to transform data into actionable business insights.
Her hard work has already paid off. Before graduation, Reshma secured a position as a data analyst with ASAP Technologies and plans to begin her professional career once she receives her employment authorization document.
"I am excited about the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills I gained through my master's degree to real-world business challenges," she explains. The skills she developed at UHart, including experience with Power BI, SQL, and Python, proved valuable during the interview process and will continue to support Reshma’s success as a data analyst. “My goal is to continue learning, strengthen my technical and analytical expertise, and grow as a data professional,” she adds.
One of Reshma’s most impactful experiences at UHart was serving as project lead for the digital literacy team through a partnership with Upper Albany Main Street (UAMS). In this role, she led a team of students in developing digital literacy training modules for small business owners while coordinating project activities and stakeholder communication.
The experience allowed her to apply classroom knowledge in a meaningful community setting while developing leadership, project management, and communication skills. "Leading the UAMS Digital Literacy Project was one of my most memorable experiences at UHart," Reshma says. "It was rewarding to work with fellow students, faculty, and community partners to create resources that could make a meaningful impact on local small businesses."
In addition to her project work, Reshma expanded her professional network through volunteer opportunities with the Project Management Institute Southern New England Chapter. These experiences exposed her to industry best practices and connected her with professionals in the field.
Faculty mentorship also played an important role in her success. Reshma credits Chavon Campbell for providing guidance and encouragement throughout her involvement with the UAMS Digital Literacy Project. Campbell, who teaches courses in management and organizational behavior, helped her strengthen her leadership and project management skills. Reshma also appreciates Chris Zack, an instructor in operations and project management, for connecting her and fellow students with PMI Southern New England Chapter events that offered valuable networking opportunities and professional development.
"The mentorship and support of my professors, and their belief in my potential, helped me build confidence, expand my professional network, and prepare for the next stage of my career," Reshma adds.
Looking back, she encourages students who are still early in their college careers to take advantage of every opportunity available to them.
"Build relationships with your professors, classmates, and mentors," Reshma advises. "Get involved in projects, internships, and student organizations to gain practical experience and develop your professional skills. Most importantly, stay curious, be open to learning, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Some of the most rewarding experiences come from taking on new challenges."
