School of Communication's Shelley Levy Retires
Shelley Levy has retired from the University after working as an office coordinator in the College of Arts and Sciences School of Communication for 21 years. She was also a member of the University’s Staff Association.
“A big part of the School of Communication is letting our students know that they are valued and that we care about their education and success,” said Director of the School of Communication and Associate Professor Jack Banks. “Shelley always conveyed this message to students through her support and kindness. During my tenure as the School’s co-director and later director, Shelley was a great source of help to me in a variety of administrative matters. However, apart from her great work, Shelley made the School of Communication a more fun, enjoyable place to work. Shelley has a great sense of humor and a concern for other people. I remember many times that she would lift my spirits when she stopped by my office to talk. Shelley’s warmth and personality will be missed.”
"Shelley has been the “go-to” person for full-time and part-time faculty and many students,” said Professor Lynne Kelly, who served as the School’s director during seven years of Shelley’s employment with the University. “So many questions were routinely directed at Shelley, and without fail, she’d stop what she was doing to assist. The work-study students she recruited loved working for Shelley as she was part “mom,” part manager. A number of them have stayed in touch with Shelley over the years after graduating.”
“Her energy excited me to take on the responsibilities the office required and made every day of work a special one,” says former work-study student Michael Guimond. “Among the peers and professors I’ve had the privilege of encountering in my time at the University of Hartford, Shelley remains a close, special friend that I speak with on a regular basis that gives me hope for the future in my career and in my life overall.
Shelley says she has thoroughly enjoyed working in the School of Communication. Above all, she loved working with everyone she encountered, as well as the work-study students she had the opportunity to mentor and stay in touch with.
