Applications are now being accepted for the recently created College Corps CT, which aims to recruit college students interested in working at summer enrichment programs to provide K-12 students and families with engaging enrichment and learning experiences in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Under the initiative, the state will partner with the University of Hartford and other local colleges and universities to recruit 500 higher education students to participate in summer programs for children. Participants will receive training on social-emotional health, equity, diversity, and academic training to support the summer programs.

"I try to remind students that gaining valuable career experience and serving others aren’t always mutually exclusive," says Brooke Penders, UHart’s executive director of Career and Professional Development. "College Corps CT provides training and a stipend to ensure youth across the state can learn, grow, and thrive from talented and helpful Hawks this summer.”

All undergraduate college students who attend Connecticut colleges and universities are eligible to apply, including Class of 2021 graduating seniors. Connecticut residents who attend college out of state are also eligible. Those interested in applying should complete the application and provide two professional references. Applicants can provide a résumé if they have one already, but it is not required.

Corps members will receive one week of specialized training prior to being matched with summer enrichment programs throughout the state. They will work for seven weeks supporting summer programs to provide joyful, stimulating experiences and to mitigate school disengagement for youth. Corps members will participate in weekly cohort meetings with team leaders and mentors who will provide ongoing guidance, resources, and support. All Corps members who complete the program requirements will receive a $4,500 stipend.

Applications will be accepted until May 21.
