Dr. Amy Weiss, Director of the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies and Assistant Professor of Judaic Studies and History, was awarded a Faculty Development Grant from the Israel Institute to establish a course entitled “Israeli Foreign Policy: History, Politics, and Culture”. This new course will explore Israel’s relations with a host of countries throughout the Middle East and beyond. The curriculum will include assigned readings of journal articles offering multiple perspectives on Israeli international affairs. In addition, Dr. Weiss plans to invite guest speakers to present on relevant topics during the semester, and these sessions will be open to the public as part of the Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies’ community programming. Upon approval of the syllabus by the university’s curriculum committee, Dr. Weiss will request to add the course as a special topics offering during the spring 2022 semester. This course will be designed to fulfill requirements for students pursuing a major or minor concentration in Judaic Studies and as an elective for history and international relations majors.

Dr. Weiss’ scholarship focuses on American Jewish history, Israel Studies, and Jewish-Christian relations. Her project to develop a course on Israeli foreign policy furthers the mission of the Israel Institute “to enhance knowledge about modern Israel by ensuring that more students, at more universities in the United States and around the world, have access to classes about Israel during their time on campus.”
