Dear Students,

We are excited to have you back on campus! As we resume our in-person experience, I want to make you aware of our alcohol and drug-related policies. It is important that you read the following information in its entirety, so you understand state and federal law along with our University policies.

Alcohol

Alcohol is prohibited for students who are not of legal age. Students who are of legal age (21+) are permitted to consume/possess alcohol on campus. Students (21+) must follow the quantity limits. For the full Alcohol Policy, please refer to The Source.

Marijuana

Recently, Connecticut legalized the use and sale of marijuana for medical and recreational use for persons 21+. Before you consider using medical or recreational marijuana in Connecticut, it is important to know and understand the facts, law, and policies about its use. Federal laws still consider the possession and sale of marijuana illegal. In addition, both state and federal law prohibit the use of marijuana on University property. The University of Hartford Controlled Substance (Drug) Policy prohibits marijuana use/possession on campus.

Alleged violations of the University of Hartford controlled substance or alcohol-related policies will be referred to the Office of Student Conduct and Conflict Resolution. Educational and punitive sanctioning are assigned to those students found responsible through the student conduct hearing process for violating university policy.

Good Samaritan Amnesty Policy

The Good Samaritan and Amnesty Policy serves as a supplement to the University’s Alcohol and Drug Policies and is designed to encourage help-seeking behavior for individuals requiring medical assistance. This policy provides amnesty from consequences described in the Student Code of Conduct and does not preclude hospitalization, interim suspension, or other actions deemed relevant for student safety.

Students are strongly encouraged to call 860.768.7777 (Public Safety emergency phone line) to request medical assistance when they or others may be dangerously intoxicated/under the influence of alcohol/drugs and/or experiencing any medical emergency.

If you have any questions regarding the University's Alcohol, Controlled Substances, or Good Samaritan/Amnesty policies, please contact the director of student conduct and conflict resolution, David Stender, at stender@hartford.edu.

Healthy Hawks Training

As a reminder, all first-year and transfer students are required to complete the Healthy Hawks Training modules. Two such trainings currently assigned include Alcoholwise and Marijuanwise through 3rd Millenium. Please contact healthyhawkstraining@hartford.edu if you have questions regarding this training.

Thank you in advance for keeping yourselves and our community safe and healthy.

Be Well, Stay Healthy, Go Hawks!
