Sharon Beverly Honored at National Convention

Sharon Beverly, University of Hartford’s Vice President of Athletics and Recreation, was one of 56 women honored at the “Trailblazers of Title IX: Lunch with Legends” event at the recent Women Leaders in College Sports national convention.
Beverly was highlighted as a Trailblazer for making an impact on women’s sports and advocating for equality in her 30+ years in higher education. The organization deemed Beverly’s trailblazing moment to be her term as the first female president of the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA).
Each Trailblazer hosted a table of convention attendees at the lunch, sharing their experiences in the industry.
The convention, held in Kansas City, Missouri, also celebrated the 50th anniversary of Title IX, the federal law prohibiting discrimination based on the sex of employees and students of educational institutions that receive federal financial assistance. It required equality in education, as well as athletics, opening the door for girls and women to play a major role in the sports world.
