Five Points Arts presents a new exhibit that features the work of Ellen Carey, associate professor at the Hartford Art School.  Carey has had a decades-long career as a practicing artist and is known as a tour de force in the photography world.  The exhibit, Photography Degree Zero: The Black Swans of Ellen Carey features a variety of cutting-edge alternatively processed photographs from multiple series including Photography Degree Zero, Struck by Light, & Zerograms, most of which have not previously been exhibited.

Carey’s work is shown widely, and she continues to have an array of exhibitions of her work.  Her solo exhibition Light Struck opened in late May at the Fox Talbot Museum in England, also known as the birthplace of photography.  This solo show also coincides with Struck By Light, a two-part solo exhibition at the New Britain Museum of American Art, from July 2023 through January 2024.

The Five Points exhibit will be on view at the Five Points Annex from August 4 – 26.  Located throughout Torrington, CT, Five Points Arts, is a 501c3 nonprofit contemporary arts organization whose mission is to champion and nurture artists at all stages of their careers and to empower a diverse community through the presentation of inspiring exhibitions and educational initiatives.  Five Points Arts also has a special relationship with the Hartford Art School, as it is one of the community partners that provide students with internships and access to affordable studio spaces through the HAS Creative Career Connection (C3) program.
