Joseph Doyle Prize for Critical Essays on American Literature

A submission to this category should be a critical essay that examines at least one literary work by an American author.

Title your piece and remove your name and all other identifying marks from your manuscript. The essay should be no more than 20 pages long. A submission to this category must be a personal essay written for WRT 110, 111, 210,their honors equivalents, or ENG 140. A personal essay is a non-fiction prose piece in which the writer examines his or her life, experiences, perspectives, attitudes, or interests.

Title your piece and remove your name and all other identifying marks from your manuscript. Put the name of the class for which this essay was written below the title in parenthesis. The essay should be no more than 20 page. Email your manuscript as an attachment to contest@hartford.edu with the category name "Doyle Personal" as the attachment title. Melvin Goldstein Awards for A Critical Paper Using Interdisciplinary Approaches

A paper entered in this category should analyze a work of literature, art, or film from an angle that crosses disciplinary lines. For example, a short story (or film or novel) might be examined through a specific theoretical perspective, such as psychological, historical, feminist, cultural studies, queer studies, etc.

Title your piece and remove your name and all other identifying marks from your manuscript. The essay should be no more than 20 pages. Melvin Goldstein Awards for A Critical Paper Using Interdisciplinary Approaches on a work of Film or Art

A paper entered in this category should analyze a work of art or film from an angle that crosses disciplinary lines. For example, a film (or painting, song, or sculpture) might be examined through a specific theoretical perspective, such as psychological, historical, feminist, cultural studies, queer studies, etc.

Minerva Nieditz Prize for Metaphysical or Philosophical Poetry
