Applicants to The Hartt School must apply to the University of Hartford. Upon submission, applicants will receive an email with a link to The Hartt School supplemental application. Applicants may also apply through Acceptd.
Note: Acceptd charges a fee of $30.00 that is outside of the control of the Hartt Admissions office.
Composition applicants must complete the supplemental application through Acceptd and upload sample scores and recordings at the same time.
All documents must be received at least two weeks prior to the applicant’s audition and/or interview.

- B. How do you perceive that The Hartt School will prepare you for your professional career?
Performance resume for all applicants required to audition. Major related experience from all applicants.
Academic BM or BA majors (non performance): Provide a list of experience appropriate to the program in which you have applied and music experience in your classical or jazz instrument or voice on which you plan to audition. Music Education majors should include all instruments on which you are proficient.
Dance majors: Provide a list of your dance training, including summer intensives, years of training in particular styles, instructors, master classes, featured roles, dance school(s), awards, etc.
BM majors (instrumental or vocal performance, jazz): Provide a list of your musical training, including years of private instruction and names of instructors, competitions, awards, large ensemble or chamber experience, master classes, summer festivals, recitals, music classes, etc.
Theatre majors: Provide a list of recent roles in plays and musicals, voice and speech training, acting coaches, summer stock experience, master classes with industry professionals, etc.
Required for all music applicants. Not required for dance or theatre. The list should be pieces that show the breadth of experience but not a comprehensive list and should be no more than two pages.
Classical or jazz instrumentalists should prepare a list of solo and ensemble pieces that you can perform with little rehearsal on your audition instrument. A common format lists the pieces alphabetically by title and includes composers names.
Voice performance majors should prepare a list of the pieces from the standard vocal literature that you can perform from memory with little to no rehearsal. The list can be broken out into three sections: art songs, arias, and oratorios.
Two artistic letters of recommendation from teachers or professionals sent by the recommender to the Hartt Admissions Office by mail or by email.
Official high school transcript should be submitted to the University of Hartford. Your guidance office can submit these either electronically or through the mail.
Note: If you have prior college credit, please have official transcripts sent to the University of Hartford Office of Admission from all colleges or universities attended. For transfer credit evaluation purposes, please also send course descriptions to The Hartt School Admissions Office in hard copy or by email.
Please note: SAT or ACT scores are required if:
- You are homeschooled or attend a high school that provides descriptive report cards rather than letter or number grades.
- You are seeking admission to the University Honors Program

Please submit 2 or 3 scores, and recordings if available, through Acceptd.
Theatre applicants should submit a headshot, dance applicants should submit a full length photo in dance attire, and voice applicants should submit a full length photo in concert attire.
