Aaliyah Booker '19

2017–2018 RECIPIENT OF THE MARY PRIMROSE FULLER SCHOLARSHIP AND VITAMAUR FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Aaliyah Booker '19 is an aspiring musician studying at the University's The Hartt School. She is grateful to be able to pursue her passion and chase her dreams of becoming a professional violin soloist, thanks to the support she receives from the generous donors of her scholarships.

I am currently in my junior year at The Hartt School as a violin performance major. I will be preparing for three recitals this semester: one solo recital, a studio recital, and a duo recital with my best friend who plays the trumpet.

I chose the University of Hartford because it felt like a great fit for me. As I was touring the campus, I just felt like I belonged here and that I could thrive in this environment. I also came here to study with my violin teacher, Anton Miller, at The Hartt School.

I have had such an amazing experience at UHart so far, with so many incredible opportunities, such as performing at the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts and playing in master classes with the Juilliard String Quartet, the American String Quartet, the Chiara String Quartet, and The Heath Quartet. I have also met many incredible people who will be my lifelong friends.

In addition to my studies, I am in the Newman Club, the Yoga Club, and play in The Hartt Orchestra, as well as in chamber ensembles. By participating in these clubs and ensembles, I have gained communication skills and have grown in my faith and self-awareness.

After UHart, I plan to get my master's degree in violin performance. In grad school, I plan on creating a professional string quartet and competing in violin competitions. Ultimately, I want to pursue a career as a soloist and chamber musician.

The scholarships I have received have changed my life and have made it possible for me to get a higher education and pursue my passion of music. Thank you so much for your generosity and for making my dreams come true. I am so grateful to you and am truly blessed to be able to study my passion.
