Kyle DeFrancesco '19

RECIPIENT OF THE DAVID AND MIRIAM ABRAHAMSON SCHOLARSHIP

Kyle DeFrancesco '19 is grateful for the wide array of experiences he has had so far at the University of Hartford—from study abroad in Australia to career ready learning in the classroom and an internship at BlumShapiro. Opportunities like this, made possible by the generosity of donors, are helping him achieve his academic and professional goals.

Why did you choose the University of Hartford?

I felt the Barney School would provide a strong education in the field of business. Furthermore, it being close to home made it a perfect fit and created a smooth transition to the college experience.

What's your favorite thing about UHart?

The people first off—I have made a ton of great friends here that I feel I will keep in touch with even after graduation. Also, being a small school, having the ability to get in contact with professors so easily and make opportunities for yourself is another great thing the University has offered. I feel that I have connected and branched out way more here than I would have at a larger school.

Have there been any professors who have helped shape your UHart experience?

Professor Donald May and Professor James Banister have made an impact on me. Both are in the accounting department and have given me guidance on how to succeed in the field going forward. They have pushed me to try for internship opportunities and helped me professionally as well by spending extra time with me to perfect my resume and do research on firms I am interested in. This has showed me that they care for the development of their students and want to see us grow, inside and outside of the classroom.

What would you like to say to the donor of your scholarship?

I just want to say thank you for the David and Miriam Abrahamson Scholarship. It means a lot to my family and to me that someone acknowledges my work and effort academically. It shows me that hard work pays off—being acknowledged for the effort I put in only makes me want to strive to be better and keep improving. It allows me to stay motivated, as being rewarded for what I love learning only shows that I am moving closer to my career goals.
