The University of Hartford is introducing new programs in fields with strong career outlooks, including nursing, exercise science, and robotics. These majors join a list of growing programs designed to meet the needs of future innovators, makers, and leaders. They include:

  • Business Analytics and Managerial Economics is designed to give students a strong understanding of the fundamentals of analytics. They will obtain the necessary quantitative, analytical, visualization and presentation skills to advance a career in the field of "big data."
  • Computer Science and Engineering offers experiential learning in a small classroom environment. Students will learn both aspects of computer hardware and software, which will make them competitive when applying for jobs.
  • Digital Media and Journalism prepares students for career success through real-world and classroom experiences. They will learn to produce TV shows in the television studio, create marketing campaigns for area advertising agencies, and produce University sports programming that airs on ESPN3.
  • Exercise Science is the study of the bodily movements that contribute to human fitness, holistic wellness, and longevity. A number of career fields are accessible to students who study exercise science, such as fitness consultant and occupational therapist. In addition to being a major on its own, exercise science is an important component of the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
  • The direct-entry Bachelor of Science in Nursing program offers small class sizes, clinical placements at leading hospitals, and simulation labs. Students will gain eligibility to sit for the national exam (NCLEX-RN) for licensure as a registered nurse.
  • Risk Management and Insurance offers students the opportunity to acquire general knowledge of each discipline, as well as specialized theory and practice in these interrelated fields. Thanks to a close proximity to the capital city of Hartford, students will have access to nearby insurance companies for internship and job opportunities.
  • Robotics puts students in an intellectually stimulating and project-based environment, learning to program and operate robots and autonomous vehicles. Emphasis is placed on helping students understand the design of robots, modeling their dynamic control systems, and interfacing subsystems with sensors, actuators, and controllers.
