Supporting Our Community
The following message was shared with the University of Hartford community on Friday, April 16.
Dear University of Hartford Community,
As the nation awaits the outcome of the Derek Chauvin trial, we are once again disturbed by the shooting death of a young unarmed black man, Daunte Wright, the mistreatment of U.S. Army second lieutenant Caron Nazario, and the disproportionate violence experienced by the BIPOC, AAPI, and other marginalized communities.
This continued violence and abuse of power is both heartbreaking and exhausting. The University unequivocally condemns these acts of violence and the blatant abuse of power and brutality they represent. These incidents remind us again of the importance of reform in the criminal justice system and for system change throughout our institutions and organizations.
We also recognize that these events are traumatic and may be difficult for many in our community. We want you to know that we stand with you. Some of the resources available to the campus community are:
- CAPS
- Office of Diversity and Community Engagement
- Office of Student Engagement and Inclusion
- Health Services
- Professor Jane Horvath, Special Assistant to the President on Issues of LGBTQ+
- International Center
Please continue to care and support one another as we all work to bring about a more socially just society.
Sincerely,
Greg Woodward
