Noah Gibson ‘24 is a risk management and insurance major enrolled in the accelerated 3+1 program at the Barney School of Business. That allows him to earn 2nd semester junior status while still in his second academic year. He is a member of the Barney Leadership Council, participates in Men’s Club Rugby, and guides other students as a Barney peer mentor. Noah recently interned with the Kycia Farm project in which a team of students provided plans and ideas to assist the town of Wethersfield.

The Kycia Farms Project

The Kycia Farms Project began as a result of funding issues precipitated by the Covid-19 pandemic. A group of University of Hartford students  teamed up to recommend possible re-use scenarios for the farm  property that had been acquired by the town. Noah served in the economic development sector of the project. “We discussed, researched, and proposed land use ideas,” he explains. “The internship experience helped me prepare for a career because teamwork is an integral part of any industry. It helped me expand my research skills, create connections in the professional industry, and work on my presentation skills.”

“Professor Kenneth Goroshko, who I had for economics, was a team advisor for the Kycia Farms Project. I became involved because of him. He also helped me make valuable contacts at other business-oriented events. That’s the best thing students can do--keep on making connections and take advantage of all networking opportunities that come along.”

The Barney School has helped me in different ways because the coursework has furthered my education in risk management and insurance. My professors have taught me new ideas and skills that will be useful if I choose to work in this field. It also helped to participate in the 3+1 program, which is designed to help hard-working students get their undergraduate and master’s degrees in an accelerated period of time.
