While interning at Crescent Moon Care, a clinical partner of the University of Hartford, Hailey Martinez '25 discovered her true passion for pediatrics. "It felt like my dream job," she said, "A place where I could truly make a difference in children’s lives through compassionate, hands-on care."

Hailey’s passion for physical therapy began with a high school internship at a pediatric clinic specializing in animal-assisted therapy. “I chose to enter the field of physical therapy because I believe every child deserves the chance to reach their fullest potential—regardless of the challenges they face,” she explains. “Through my experiences as a longtime nanny and clinical intern, I’ve seen how compassionate, personalized care can truly empower children. That’s the kind of impact I strive to make every day.”

Hailey is graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and a minor in Psychology. She is excited to begin the Doctor of Physical Therapy program at UHart’s College of Education and Health Professions in June and feels well-prepared for the challenge. “My time at UHart has shaped me both personally and professionally. Through my internships in various physical therapy clinics, I discovered the power of hands-on care and the importance of building trust with patients—especially those facing significant challenges.”

Hailey has also worked as an RA with ResLife at UHart, a role that has instilled valuable leadership skills, with experience managing complex situations and being a mentor to students. Martinez enjoyed being president of the Exercise Medicine Club at the University where she advocated for health and wellness in the UHart community.

When asked what her favorite things were about UHart, Hailey mentioned the strong sense of community on campus. Some of her best memories are from the BSU Fashion Show, Spring Fest, and the club fairs—when the whole campus came together to celebrate each other. “I also loved just hanging out on the lawn in the quads when the weather was nice, or the spontaneous snowball fights during snow days. It's the little things that bring us together and leave the most memorable impact,” Hailey reminisces. “College is a crucial time for personal growth, discovering your passions, and building meaningful connections. Set ambitious goals, reach for the stars, take advantage of every opportunity to improve yourself, and never allow anyone to limit your potential or hold you back from achieving excellence,” she adds.
