Hillyer College Associate Professor Bilal Sekou received a proclamation from the State of Connecticut at the 100 Men of Color Gala and Awards.

Hillyer College Associate Professor Bilal Sekou was honored at the 2019 100 Men of Color Gala and Awards on Oct. 18 at The Bushnell in Hartford. Sekou, who teaches politics and government, also received a proclamation from the State of Connecticut, and another from the City of Springfield, Mass., which named Oct. 18, 2019, as “Bilal Sekou PhD Day.”

Now in its seventh year, the event recognizes men of color in business, education, entrepreneurship, entertainment, government, and public service for their contributions, as well as the impact they have made on the lives of people throughout the State of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Western Massachusetts. A portion of the proceeds from the event support scholarships for young men who graduate from high school and plan on attending college, and male leadership and mentorship programs.
