After joining more than 50 local competitions, it was time for Professor EB Caron to take her jigsaw puzzling skills to the next level. It certainly paid off.

Caron won first place in the team category at the USA Jigsaw National Championship in San Diego Oct. 21-23 with her husband and two friends. They completed three puzzles for the team competition in 4:26:45, 12 minutes ahead of the second-place team.

The assistant professor of psychology has also transformed her passion for puzzles into an academic exercise, advising students in her statistics class to find relationships between completion times and practice in order to strengthen skills needed for research.

The Hartford Courant recently highlighted her puzzle endeavors, both in and outside the classroom.
