UHart Prepares to Welcome Hawks Back to Campus and Welcome Class of 2029

The summer is winding down and anticipation is rising as the University of Hartford prepares to welcome Hawks back to campus!

Welcoming new student to campus

Whether you’re a new or returning student, the University has a wealth of activities planned to get you excited for a great new fall semester. (You may already notice we’re cooking up a major upgrade on and around the Konover Campus Center—more details on that will be announced soon.) From the moment move-in begins on Thursday, August 21, there’s something for everyone.

For All Hawks

HEAT’s Block Party

Climb a rock wall, ride a mechanical bull, take pics in a photo booth, and enjoy your favorite tunes curated by a live student DJ—it’s all at the Block Party held by the Hartford Events and Activities Team (HEAT) from 7 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, August 23 in Alumni Plaza. Top off the evening with a free dessert from a local food truck.

Explore the Area

Throughout the weekend, UHart shuttles will run to Bishop's Corner, a vibrant spot just a stone's throw from campus. You can hop on the shopping shuttle at the Commons Patio for your first chance to explore and familiarize yourself with West Hartford's restaurants and shops, or pick up any last-minute dorm or class essentials. The first bus departs at 7 p.m. and will loop between Target and the University until 10 p.m.

Welcome BBQ

Kick the year off in style on Sunday, August 24, from 5–7:30 p.m. in Commons. Good vibes and great food are on tap at our Welcome Back BBQ—the perfect way to reconnect with friends, make new ones, enjoy a delicious meal and grill up some fun!

For New Hawks

Big H Photo

It wouldn’t be opening weekend without the Big H Photo! On Saturday, August 23, at 5 p.m., gather with your classmates on the Gengras Student Union lawn to form a giant letter “H” together, while a drone takes photos from above. You’ll be given your class T-shirt to wear for this UHart tradition.

Start Strong Adventures

From hiking, biking, and tubing to painting, journaling, or visiting an art museum, there’s a Start Strong Adventure for everyone—and it’s all free! Register for an adventure to explore some of the many attractions the Hartford area has to offer, meet other students, and have new experiences!

Commuter Kickoff

On Saturday, August 23, join the Commuter Student Association for a fun and friendly BBQ to kick off your first semester on campus. Enjoy some great food and music, meet fellow commuter students and learn tips to make the most of your UHart experience.

Welcome back to campus, Hawks—we can’t wait to see you!
