In summer 2026, Ericka Morgan Walsh (formerly Ericka Schaedler) achieved two lifelong goals in just two years, earning her Bachelor’s in University Studies with a Montessori Primary concentration from the University of Hartford while completing AMI Montessori Primary training. She graduated Summa Cum Laude.
The opportunity to transfer both her associate degree and Montessori credits made it possible for Ericka to continue her education while deepening her understanding of the Montessori philosophy and preparing for the career she felt called to pursue.
Her Montessori journey began eight years ago at Montessori Discovery School in Norwich, Connecticut, where she first observed a Primary classroom as part of an associate degree assignment. Inspired by the independence, confidence, and joy she saw in the children, she eventually returned to the school. Today, she is beginning her first year as a Montessori guide at the very school that first inspired her.
“Montessori is so much more than an educational method; it is a mindset,” Ericka says. “It puts the child first, values peace and respect, and fosters independence, confidence, curiosity, and appreciation.”
Ericka credits her Montessori trainer and mentor, Gretchen Hall, University Studies Program Director Kellie Westenfeld, Montessori Discovery School, and her family—especially her husband—for supporting her throughout the journey.
