For Eliza Bomhardt ‘26, earning her degree from the University of Hartford was a journey of resilience, perseverance, and finding her way back to a place she always considered home.
Growing up in Delaware, Bomhardt dreamed of attending a college where she would feel welcomed and accepted. After a softball tournament, she was invited to visit Hartford by the assistant coach for the Hawks softball team. She immediately felt a connection to the University and committed that day, arriving on campus in 2016.
After three years at Hartford, Bomhardt made the difficult decision to step away from the University and focus on her well-being. For the next four years, she continued working toward her goal of earning a degree.
In 2023, Bomhardt returned to Hartford through the adult degree completion program, balancing work and personal responsibilities while completing her studies. With the flexibility of the program and support from Kellie Westenfeld, she was able to continue her journey.
In May 2026, Bomhardt graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in University Studies, concentrating in Criminal Justice and Psychology, with a minor in Psychology.
Today, she looks back on her Hartford experience with gratitude for the mentors, faculty, and staff who supported her along the way. Her story is a reminder that success doesn’t always follow a straight path—and that it’s never too late to finish what you started.
