Sarah Psillas, assistant professor and program director of Occupational Therapy in the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, was recently interviewed on “The OT Minute,” a YouTube channel with over 1.8 million subscribers. Psillas and her colleague Wendy Stav of Nova Southeastern University discussed their Dynamic Model of Occupation-Based Practice which provides a framework for understanding and defining occupation-based practice. Along with the model, they discussed the Occupation-Based Practice Assessment (OBPA) they developed to help measure occupation-based practice. These projects help clarify occupation-based practice and conceptualize occupational therapy’s unique value in the modern healthcare system. The new ENHP Occupational Therapy program will welcome its first class of undergraduates this fall. Students will complete a five-year combined BS in Health Sciences/Master of Science in Occupational Therapy program. A post-baccalaureate master’s program is planned to begin in Summer 2022 pending accreditation review. Both programs will help meet demand for professionals in this growing field. Jobs for occupational therapists are expected to grow 24 percent from 2016 to 2026, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
