Dance auditions and interviews are conducted on campus as well as in select cities around the United States, and will accept recorded auditions for applicants who reside more than 300 miles from campus or with prior permission from the director.
The Hartt Dance Division is looking for dancers with evidence of strong training, artistry, and facility in the following areas: physical awareness, expressiveness, coordination, articulation, suppleness, stamina, eagerness to move in both balletic and non-balletic styles, musicality and presence.
The live audition will consist of a 2-hour class incorporating classical ballet, pointe work (for women if applicable), plus a 1-hour class in modern and improvisational work.
Dancers should also come prepared to perform a short solo, 1-3 minutes in length, in the event that the panel requests additional work.
Assessment is based on technical proficiency, physicality, creativity, and authenticity of movement expression. Each dance applicant will also interview with a dance division faculty member.
